Luchob Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The suite was established by S. K. Ovchinnikov and A. T. Tarasenko (Geology of the USSR, vol. 24, 1959).
Synonym: Luchobskaya suite, Лучобская свита
Reference section:
Lithology and Thickness
It is composed of red-colored felsites, dacites, liparites, tuffs, tuff breccias, and ignimbrites. At the base, there are basal conglomerates. The thickness of the suite is 650-1500 m. Five thicknesses have been distinguished in its section: basal (25 - 300 m), felsite (25 - 300 m), lower dacite (60 m), liparite (30-270 m), upper dacite (30-130 m). A sixth, trachyandesite thickness, is occasionally present. All of them have been studied and described in detail by R. B. Baratov, E. N. Goretskaya, and S. I. Shchukin (1973b).
Subvolcanic intrusions of granodiorite-porphyries, dacite porphyries, and quartz latite-porphyrobs are associated with the rocks of the Luchobskaya suite.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Luchobskaya suite lies with a sharp angular discordance on all older rocks, including the phyllite of the upper Moscow - Upper Carboniferous Muborak Fm.
Upper contact
It is covered with a slight angular discordance by red conglomerates of the Upper Permian Lower Triassic Khanakin Fm.
Regional extent
It is widespread in the South Gissar region, its analogs are conditionally distinguished on very small areas in the Zarafshan-Gissar region (Baratov et al., 1974).
